This New Horror Film Is Now Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Relationship.

Here's a test for long-term couples who are fans of the horror genre: Get comfortable with your significant other and stream Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its online premiere via Hulu. On the surface, it may seem like standard biological terror, but inside Together resides a deep contemplation about our choices in loving one another.

A Debut Feature Investigating Partnership Complexities

Together marks the first full-length movie for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It stars the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have remained a couple for over ten years. Married in reality in 2017, the actors contribute a unique chemistry to their portrayals, skillfully embodying both the good and bad of a enduring union.

The plot begins when Millie and Tim relocate from the metropolis to the countryside for professional reasons. A somewhat stereotypical story element, of course, but that’s mostly where the tropes conclude. Together evolves into as much a deep dive into the psyche of the pair’s relationship as it is a body horror flick.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While hiking near their new home, a storm hits, and the two fall into an underground cave. After being trapped overnight there and managing to escape, a strange force takes hold of the pair. This force induces a otherworldly bond between them that goes exceeding simple connection.

The complete narrative is a slow burn of scares, blending moments of hallucinatory nightmares, gross (but never too gross) biological grotesqueries, and authentically humorous exchanges (sometimes amidst something disturbing). The director weaves these elements together expertly and presents them in a consistently growing atmosphere of fear.

Nuanced Portrayals

A great deal of Together is exclusively the performances of its stars, and they deftly portray numerous complexities to the characters’ relationship. Millie's sense of self and feeling of intimacy is waning due to a lack of intimacy. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his reluctance to chase only his failing musical ambitions slowly bubbles to the surface.

Tim, on the other hand feels trapped and isolated by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve relocated rural and distant from his network of friends. He is terrified of the concept of utterly sacrificing his personal autonomy in another person. This fear is intensified by the reality he lacks a driver's license and needs Millie for mobility.

The director's cleverest decision in this movie refrains from painting either of his characters the obvious villain.

The couple face the kind of problems that are inherent in most partnerships over a long period. At their core, they still love one another. They still laugh together, comfort one another, and open up at times. But below this facade, there’s an inescapable current of uncertainty about their relationship.

Allegory and Meaning

While the paranormal elements in Together represent these fears of excessive reliance and totally devoting oneself to another person, the symbolism never feels overly obvious or self-important. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments present a perfect parallel to the relationship narrative. Both the frights and the fights enhance each other symbiotically.

A Debated Finale

Together’s conclusion, which remains unspoiled, has left audiences divided on the movie's final takeaway about enmeshed dynamics. It has been said that single viewers have interpreted the film as a compelling reason for avoiding commitment. On the other hand, some couples experiencing tension found that the film ultimately assisted them reconcile.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own reaction could act as a telling indicator of how you think about commitment. Will the conclusion sow a sense of discomfort and fear, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you recognize your own traits in one of the characters and feel frustration, or simply glance toward your other half and state, “I’d do that for you”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an test you can undertake today.

Together is available to watch on the streaming service Hulu as of this moment.
