Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his initial championship for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has experienced a challenging season, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in particular - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-term trainer Cervara.

Now collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set victory over challenger Moutet.

This marks the player's initial championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt from spring of the previous year.

Victory also means he has won 21 championships at twenty-one different events.

"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my children at once, so to secure a championship is particularly special," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, comprising in that event in the past months.

His defensive play style and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had caused some to doubt if his capacity to compete at the highest level was concluded.

But the player has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

The champion fought back from a break down in the first set against the challenging opponent, winning 4 of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors exchanged breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden tour championship, took control to push for a decider.

Moutet rescued four early-game opportunities in a tight final set before the champion won the break to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner secured the win with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
